Privacy & your data

Updated September 25, 2026

NewsRustle is a Northwest Arkansas news reader operated by Mycelis Solutions, LLC. You can read the news and choose sources without creating an account.

Accounts

You can read NewsRustle and choose sources without an account. Google and Facebook sign-in are being configured; the Account panel shows a provider only when it is available. If you sign in, we request Google’s openid, email, and profile information or Facebook’s public_profile and email permissions. Facebook may not provide an email address. We use the provider’s stable account ID to recognize you and may store your email, display name, and profile picture. We do not request your contacts, friends, messages, or provider password.

NewsRustle stores the terms and privacy versions you accepted, the time of consent, and your optional marketing and personalized advertising choices. Those choices default to off; signing in does not subscribe you to marketing or enable an advertising pixel. We do not retain provider access or refresh tokens after sign-in. Your NewsRustle session uses a secure, browser-only cookie that expires after 30 days; the database stores a hash of its token. Saved source choices remain until you delete your account.

Earlier account version

An earlier account version used ChatGPT sign-in. If you used it, NewsRustle received a site-specific account identifier, your email address, and a display name when available. For existing signed-in sessions, we use these to recognize your account and let you manage your saved data. NewsRustle does not receive your password or access to your ChatGPT conversations, Gmail, contacts, or Google Drive.

If you saved source choices through that account version, we store your account identifier, the sources you follow, their order, and the times the record was created and updated. We do not copy your email address or display name into this preferences database.

Choices saved in your browser

Without sign-in, source choices, saved-story markers, read-story markers, and Local place choices remain in this browser. When you sign in, your Local primary place and followed city tabs are also stored with your account so they can sync across devices. NewsRustle stores the city and region you choose, not your precise device coordinates. Clear your browser’s site data to remove the local copies.

Services and external links

The optional weather feature stores your selected location in this browser. If you choose “Use my location,” your browser asks permission first. Coordinates are sent to NewsRustle and the National Weather Service to retrieve a forecast; they are not added to your account profile. Requests may appear in infrastructure logs. Clear site data to remove the saved location.

On the Local page, we may use your connection’s approximate city and region to suggest an area. If you select “Use my location,” your browser asks permission and sends coordinates to NewsRustle and the National Weather Service to find a nearby city. We save the resulting city and region in your browser, not your precise coordinates. For places outside our Northwest Arkansas source list, NewsRustle sends the city and region you choose to GDELT to find publisher headlines.

NewsRustle uses OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting and storage. These providers may process technical request information, such as IP addresses and security logs, and use cookies to operate and protect the service. Their retention practices are governed by their own policies.

Some publisher images and logos load from external services, including publishers and Google’s favicon service. Those requests can expose your IP address to the service. Opening an article takes you to the publisher’s website, where its privacy practices apply.

Advertising and email

The NewsRustle application currently has no Google Analytics or Meta advertising pixel. The application does not enroll readers in a marketing email list or an advertising audience. Google and Facebook advertising integrations are not enabled. Hosting providers may supply operational traffic statistics.

Download or delete your data

If you previously saved account data and are still signed in, open Account to download your information and saved source choices. We keep saved choices until you delete them. “Delete my NewsRustle data” removes your preferences from the active NewsRustle database and clears NewsRustle reading preferences in the browser you are using, then signs you out. It does not delete your identity-provider account or local data on other devices.

The deletion control also removes any NewsRustle sign-in profile, active sessions, and account consent records associated with the account. See the data deletion instructions. Provider-managed backups and technical logs may remain under those providers’ retention policies; the account deletion control does not erase those systems. We will describe any new data uses here before enabling them.

For sign-in and infrastructure information, see OpenAI’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy. See the NewsRustle Terms of Service for the proposed account agreement.
